How many referees do they need at the Mid-South Regional Championship? With over 800 players they will need a LOT!  Chuck Flanagan, a USAPA Referee Trainer, will teach a FREE introductory referee clinic on Sunday, February 16 from 1:30 – 4:30 pm.  The first hour will be class room and the remaining time will be application. The clinic will be held in the PEAP building on the A&M Campus.   No need to register.  Just show up.

If you have questions about what it takes to be a referee see Linda, Adrian or Mary Beth. If you have questions about the clinic itself you can email Mary Beth Henthorne thru TeamSnap for more information.

With over 800 players over 32 outdoor courts and 4 days the Mid South Regional needs lots of volunteers to be successful.  They have set up a web page for you to register to volunteer some time on specific days and times.  The opportunities are diverse including such things as taping the court lines, set up and tear down crew, check-n desk, referees and line judges, food and hospitality, etc.   Non-players are welcome to volunteer too.

If you would like to attend the award dinner and social, tickets are $10 each. It's a great time to meet other players, network and there are tons of door prizes! Sign up on pickleballtournaments.com or with Karin. Deadline is February 16th.

April News Update!

Add some more info about this item...

Here is an updated schedule for playing pickleball in Bryan/College Station.

A & M Church of Christ: plays on Tuesday evenings @ 5:30 pm.  Remember you must be a member of Brazos Valley Pickleball  to play here.  The dues are $30.00 a year or you may pay a visitors fee of $5.00 each time you play.  Three courts are available, climate controlled (e.g., air conditioned!)

Bryan Tennis Center:  Monday mornings @ 9:00; Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays @ 5:30 pm.  To play at the Bryan Tennis Center you must be a member of Brazos Valley Pickleball and the City of Bryan requires a membership.  For most of you who play here, your membership will expire May 31, 2017.  Visitors must pay a visitors fee of $10.00, to the city of Bryan plus a $5.00 visitors fee paid to Brazos Valley Pickleball.  Four courts are available.  While this location is covered - it is not climate controlled!

The Lincoln Center:  Tuesdays & Thursdays @ 10:30 am - 1:00 pm; and Wednesday evenings @ 5:30-8:15 PM.  This schedule will expire May 18, 2017 and the City of College Station will likely put out a new schedule for the summer
Four courts are available.  This location is climate controlled.

Central Baptist Church:  The summer schedule begins on Monday June 12, 2017. See the association calendar.  Remember to play at Central Baptist you must be a member of Brazos Valley Pickleball Association. Membership dues for the year are $30.00.  You may pay a visitors fee of $5.00 for each visit.  We will have 8 courts and they are climate controlled (e.g., air conditioned).

While we are excited about new outdoor courts we have not had any new information about a timeline on the College Station outdoor courts.

Thank you all for your support.  Our organization is growing.  Hopefully we will have a place to call home, with permanent, air conditioned courts sometime in the future!  Thank you to those who continue to pursue this issue with the cities.  Your efforts do no go unnoticed!

The churches have been a blessing for allowing us to use their gyms.  A & M Church of Christ and Central Baptist have been more than generous.  To show our appreciation for the use of the gyms, with all of your support, we will continue giving donations to the churches.

Theresa, BVPA President
